Showing supremacy in both G.C.E.(O/L) and G.C.E. (A/L) examinations, Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya stands on the highest step in the field of education in Sri Lanka today. Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya (RBV) is one of the most highly sought after girls’ schools in Sri Lanka. It was founded by Sir Henry Steel Olcott, who initiated the Parama Vigngnanartha Buddhist Association in 1947 with the object of bringing out the hidden talents of the girls through a conventional education system into a respectable generation of ladies.
Among the Buddhist girls’ schools which were endowed to the nation by the Buddhist Theosophical Society (BTS), Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya in Gampaha which belonged to Colombo District at that time was started on December 17, 1947. There was no opportunity for the girls in Gampaha region to receive education in the English medium and the start of this school could be considered as a priceless opportunity to offer the nation, a younger generation of girls who appreciate cultural values of Sri Lanka preserving their identity through religious discipline at a time, when there was a need to increase horizons internationally along with knowledge. As the first principal of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Mrs. Denagama who was a graduate, assumed duties.

After seven decades today Rathnavali stands on the highest step of producing the most intelligent, perceptive and spirited young ladies to the country with crystal clear guidance from the present Head Mistress Mrs. H.A.H.Jayawardana. RBV girls, who share a remarkable sisterhood with one another, strongly believe it is their home with a large family of about 3000 siblings. At present RBV is providing high quality education where the classes are conducted with utmost dedication by nearly 160 teachers in both Sinhala and English mediums from Grade 6 – 11 and in Science, Maths, Arts and Commerce streams in the A/L Section.
It is an amazing feeling when the students bring glory to mother Rathnavali in their G.C.E.(O/L) and (A/L) examinations. The students have displayed their supremacy at the G.C.E (A/L) Examination in 2013 in no uncertain way. Erandi Kanchana earned the First Rank in the G.C.E.(A/L) 2013 from the Commerce stream while Lasanthi Chandramali and Wasana Sandamali were placed fifth and ninth respectively. Induni Punsara and Pawani Walivitage obtained First Rank from the district in Physical Science and Bio Science streams during the same year. 156 students of RBV were able to obtain 3A’s in 2013 Advanced Level examination.

Out of 304 students who sat for G.C.E (O/L) Examination, 264 obtained 7 A’s.
Aiming to produce students with well-balanced personalities, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, numerous clubs and societies, sports clubs, the equally exclusive education system and of course the RBV OGA has been encouraged since its inauguration to develop the skills of the children which would enhance the spiritual, physical and mental well-being of them. Realising the facts, Rathnavalians have shown their in born talents in all activities to make their Alma Mater proud.
The cadet band and the corps grabbed consecutive victories in the assessment camps and De Soyza Championship since 2008. The Rathnavali President’s platoon was the champions in the De Soyza Championship 2013. The Eastern Band platoon emerged runners-up at the Hermann Loos and De Soyza Championships. The Musical Unit bagged three first places at the All Island School Music Competition 2012.
The sports section of the school renders a great service to uplift the standard of sport by producing flexible, well-balanced personalities. In 2011 they were able to annexe the second place at All Island Table Tennis competitions and won many places in the John Tarbat athletic competitions held in Kandy.
With all the victories and tributes, today Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya is an eminent girls’ school in the island due to its unique attribution of equality among all beings and the highly significant superiority they possess in the field of Education.
