As the balloons increased in size, so did awareness about SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka. It increased awareness and increased support from fellow Sri Lankans as well.

SOS Children’s Villages celebrated the 35th anniversary of commencing operations in Sri Lanka presenting the first Balloon Carnival in Sri Lanka. Balloon Carnival took place on September 10, 2016 at the Galle Face Green, Colombo. The Carnival started with the arrival of the SOS Ambassadors, Roshan Mahanama and Pooja Umashankar at 5pm along with the world famous cricketers such as Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Dharmasena, Chaminda Vaas, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Upul Chandana and Farveez Maharoof.

Senior management team of SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka headed by Ananda Karunarathne received the guests under the balloon arch which was decorated in blue and white. Once the lamp was lit by the guests and a long standing staff member, an SOS mother and a child. Public was invited to have photographs with the celebrities as a fund raising event for the SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka. Many stalls showed off the talents of our children and project members such as the mothers club.

Children from the SOS Children’s Village is Piliyandala and the youth home participated and enjoyed themselves with all the other children who were present at the event. Colorful balloons, music and dancing and many game stalls completed the carnival atmosphere.
