KI Network Schools Annual Sports Meet 2016-17 was held in a very successful manner while adding glamour to the year. The meet was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International stadium, Diyagama last Monday.
The OKI Network comprises of the main school in Wattala and branches in Kandana, Kiribathgoda, Biyagama, Kotikawatte and Negombo.
While the athletes showed their prowess in the track the cynosure of the meet was the colourful march past and the drill display backed up by the branch schools bands.
Numerous events including track events took place with the energetic participation of over 1500 students under different age groups and four houses named John, Murray, Peter and Lucia.
Mary House of the Wattala main school emerged the champion house while Kotikawatte branch’s Peter House along with John House of Biyagama branch, Lucia House of Kiribathgoda and Negombo branches won the championships in their respective schools. John House won the championship of the Kandana Branch.
John House of the Wattala Main School won the championship of the Inter House March past competition while Kandana Branch won the Inter Branch march past title of the Inter Branch march past for the third consecutive year.
P.H.D. Waidyatilleke a reputed athlete and the first Sri Lankan to be appointed as an International Technical Officer by International Association of Athletics graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while OKI International Schools Network chairperson Nirmalie Saparamadu, along with OKI Directors Denum Abeysekera, Hemal Abeysekera and Nimani Ranasinghe, Network Principal Mona Dharmawardhane and a host of officials of the OKI Network were present as guests-of-honour. – Lakshman Ranasinghe
