The Shivan Foundation founded by businessman Ganesh Velayuthan, was set up to help Differently Abled undergraduates at the University of Peradeniya.

The foundation is in memory of Mr Velayuthan's son who was differently abled and died at age 19.

A grant being handed over to an undergraduate by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Laksh Wijeweera.

Twenty six Peradeniya University undergraduates were given grants for their studies, with Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Upul B. Disssnayake as the Chief Guest.

Speaking at this event held at the Senate room of the University, Prof Disssnayake said this was a great gift to the differently abled undergraduates of the University. He said it was of prime importance that, without any personal gain, Mr Velayuthan set up this foundation to help undergraduates continue their studies, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed. He said this was made possible due to the efforts of Ven. Udawatte Vimalabddhi Thera and Ven. Galle Dhamminda Thera.

Mr Velayuthan said that, after his sons' death, he set up this Foundation with the help of two Buddhist monks, with the intention of serving undergraduates, which he was able to fulfill.
