A new Professional Programme for accountants and managers in the hotel and tourism industry was launched by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management (SLITHM) in December 2016.   
The Professional Certified Finance & Management Accounting Programme (CHFMA) jointly conducted by CMA and SLIHTM will now provide opportunities to those working in the Hotel and Tourism Industry and those after A/L, with part professional accounting qualifications, accounting or management degrees, diploma in accounting and management to register for the Foundation & Certificate CHFMA Course commencing in March 2017 on or before 15th March 2017.
With the rapid development of the Hospitality industry, it has provided increased job opportunities in the accounting, finance, audit and management community – a key component of the human resource asset of the industry to brace itself to support this major expansion.
CMA and SLITHM have joined hands to launch this programme – the Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accountancy professional qualification (CHFMA) for the first ever time and thereby to provide an opportunity for the finance, accounting, auditing and management teams in the hospitality industry to acquire a professional qualification enabling them to enhance their skills and knowledge and thereby improve significantly their contribution to support the growth, competitiveness and profitability in the hotel and tourism industry.
This will help the Hospitality industry to build a sustainable pool of qualified accountants, audit, finance and management staff required for the industry.
A qualified panel of Lecturers from the hotel and tourism industry will be conduct the lectures on Sundays at the SLITHM premises in Colombo.
CHFMA membership requires completion of CHFMA examinations and a three-year practical experience requirement as per the Practical Training guide, in the hospitality industry and a Viva Voce. Those successful will be identified as members who are qualified Professional Accountants and Managers in the Hospitality Industry with the designations “ACHFMA” for Associates and those with a minimum of 5 years senior executive experience after obtaining ACHFMA to be designated “FCHFMA” for Fellows showing their commitment to high ethical standards, professional values, and lifelong learning or continuing professional development.
